Less than five months after some Palm Springs residents officially formed the
Baristo Neighborhood Organization, some of their neighbors have requested
that the organization’s boundaries be expanded so they too could be included.
“I think it speaks volumes about the Baristo Neighborhood Organization that
nearby residents wanted to be included so soon," said Lee Husfeldt, Director of
Neighborhood and Community Relations.
The Baristo Neighborhood Organization, the City’s 13th officially recognized
neighborhood organization, joined the City’s Office of Neighborhood
Involvement (ONI) in August. Initial boundaries were both the north and south
side of Baristo Road between Avenida Caballeros on the west and Sunrise
Way on the east, incorporating those addresses on Tiffany Circle (east, west,
north and south), Villorrio Way and 48@Baristo.
The Organization has now approved expanding the boundaries to include
additional property owners. The new boundaries are: property both north and
south along Baristo Road between Avenida Caballeros and Sunrise,
incorporating those addresses on Tiffany Circle; property both east and west
along Avenida Caballeros from Saturnino Road on the south to Arenas Road to
the north and the southern parcels of Arenas Road between Calle El Segundo
to Sunrise Way; and the north side of Ramon Road between Avenida
Caballeros and Sunrise Way.
In addition to the new property owners/parcel owners, the Baristo
Neighborhood Organization will now include the following condominium
complexes: The Rose Garden, Caballeros Estates, Hermosa Villas, Villorrio,
Villa Caballeros, Casitas Arenas, 48@Baristo, Ramon Estates, and
48@Arenas. Before the expansion the organization included only The Rose
Garden, Villorrio and 48@Baristo. Expanding the boundaries brings to nearly 700 the number of potential
members in the organization.
“'The Baristo Neighborhood Organization recognizes the value of being able to
participate in the Office of Neighborhood Involvement’s community meetings
and push forward those issues shared by all of our neighbors in our corridor,”
said David Carden Jr., chair of the Baristo Neighborhood Organization. “The
real value of being organized is the ability to meet neighbors and begin to
establish a real sense of community and belonging and that someone cares.
The city of Palm Springs provides that forum which is so important to nurture
new ideas and tackle issues on a very local level by working together and
sharing possible solutions."
Established by City Ordinance in April 2005, the ONI is a vehicle for
encouraging citizen involvement in service delivery and improving
communication among citizens, City staff and elected officials.
