Racquet Club Estates Neighborhood Organization to Receive $1,000 Preservation Grant

In recognition for its historically devoted neighborhood Web site, the Racquet Club Estates Neighborhood Organization (RCENO) will receive a $1,000 grant from the Palm Springs Preservation Foundation Thursday, Sept. 11 at City Hall.

The check and a framed letter of recognition will be presented to the organization by preservation foundation president William Kopelk at 8:30 a.m. during the Neighborhood Involvement Committee’s monthly meeting.

The grant is being given to show appreciation to the Racquet Club Estates Neighborhood Organization for its “valuable educational contribution” through its Web site -- which includes vintage advertising brochures about the north Palm Springs neighborhood as well as an interview with architect William Krisel, who designed many of the homes in the area, according to the foundation’s incoming president Ron Marshall.

The Web site also includes an architectural map of the neighborhood and “does much to instill a sense of neighborhood identity and pride,” according to the letter of recognition that will be presented along with the grant.

“Ultimately, we hope that efforts such as RCENO’s will serve as the impetus for the creation of historic districts in Palm Springs, an aim which our foundation strongly supports,” the letter states.

The grant money is expected to be used to further continue the preservation of the Racquet Club Estates neighborhood.

The Racquet Club Estates Neighborhood Organization is one of 22 officially recognized groups associated with the City’s Office of Neighborhood Involvement (ONI). Established in April 2005, the ONI works to improve citizen involvement and communication among citizens, City staff and elected officials.
