Going into its fourth week, the Baristo Neighborhood Organization announced that it has collected more than 2,100 signatures in an effort to bring a Trader Joe's grocery to Palm Springs.
"We are ecstatic," said David Carden, who is spearheading the grass-root, neighborhood-driven petition drive. "We will be at VillageFest every Thursday at the corner of Tahquitz and Palm Canyon asking people to sign the petition until we meet our goal of 5,000 signatures."
He said that signatures are still pouring in from all of the neighborhoods in the City through the efforts of the Neighborhood Involvement Committee, which represents 15 organized neighborhoods throughout Palm Springs. The Committee is part of the City's Office of Neighborhood Involvement program.
"As we approach the 2,500 halfway mark, we hope to keep up the momentum until the end," Carden said.
